"Lauri des Marais is on the cutting edge of experimental music." --American Composers Forum.
Her compositions are primarily synthesized streams between shape, mood, and pattern-texture construction; this she refers to as Classical Technology, which creates Stories in Sound. Lauri des Marais taught herself how to play piano in 1994 and now has a large body of works that include solo piano, large-scale compositions, music concrete, sampler electronic music, video projects, and music for dance. In her personal practice of Deep Listening (TM), she developed a form of movement she calls Movement So Still With Sound, where themes of traditional eastern movement translate the subtler dimensional qualities of her music. Her repertoire includes Towards Harmony: Mapping Peace through Sound which premiered at the Gloucester New Arts Festival in 2006. Samples of Lauri des Marais’ work can be found at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music library, with special thanks to Pauline Oliveros.
